Life As A Middle School Student

Middle School comprises Classes VII and VIII. Students at this age are often playful, fun-loving, and can be easily distracted. To address this, the curriculum is designed to motivate them, encourage responsibility, and prepare them for high school public exams.

The teaching methodology focuses on deepening students’ understanding of their subjects. Teachers use various visual aids, such as teaching aids and pictures, as highly effective strategies. In Middle School, students study English, Tamil/French, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. In addition to core academics, they also engage in Value Education, General Knowledge, Communicative English, Sports, and Skill-Based Education.

Lessons learned in middle school enhance students’ mastery of concepts, their ability to apply these concepts in new situations, and their attitudes toward science, social studies, and mathematics.

The School of Middle School

The Middle School emphasizes consistent practice in improving handwriting. Students receive special attention in co-curricular activities during these years and are encouraged to enhance their English skills through the use of the English Language Lab, which is equipped with international language learning software.
Students also participate in various English Literacy Club activities, such as newspaper reading, newspaper presentations, and news reading in creative media, including story narration. These activities help them prepare for competitive exams like the English Olympiad, International Mathematics Olympiad, Science Olympiad, and others. Additionally, students are trained to participate in the Hummingbird Spellbee Competitions.
Students undergo rigorous training in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), including the Air Wing, Navy, and Armed Forces. To foster a spirit of competition, intra-class competitions are held monthly for Classes VII and VIII.

Core Subjects

Language LanguageStudents have the option to choose either Tamil, Hindi, or French. Language development and literacy are critical parts of any child’s overall development. They support a child’s ability to communicate, express, and understand feelings.
English EnglishThe English language plays an essential role in our lives as it facilitates communication. It is the primary language for studying subjects worldwide. English broadens students’ minds, develops emotional skills, and improves their quality of life by providing job opportunities.
Mathematics MathematicsMathematics helps us understand the world and builds mental discipline. It encourages logical reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, abstract or spatial thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Science ScienceScience provides solutions for everyday life and helps us answer the great mysteries of the universe. It drives technological advancements and is fundamental to making life easier in various fields.
Social Science Social ScienceThe study of Social Science prepares students to grow as active, responsible, and reflective members of society. It teaches them to address societal and global concerns using literature, technology, and other community resources.

Computer Science

The school has state-of-the-art computer labs catering to students from primary through senior secondary levels, ensuring that every student stays current with IT-enhanced learning programs. The school boasts spacious and sophisticated Computer Science laboratories equipped with high-speed internet connectivity. Systems and software are regularly updated to keep pace with technological advancements.

There are three computer labs: two for the lower classes and one main lab for students preparing for public exams. All three labs are high-tech, featuring LED projectors and virtual classroom facilities, and are centrally air-conditioned. Students receive regular lab sessions to gain up-to-date knowledge in the subject and programming, benefiting from the latest IT-based educational initiatives.

Value Education

Value Education is an indispensable part of our curriculum. Our school pays prime attention to shaping the character of our students, as it moulds and develops each student’s character. Self-awareness of one’s behaviour is essential for personal growth and maturity. Value Education helps students become increasingly aware of societal and individual values, distinguishing between right and wrong. It also fosters strong relationships with oneself, family, and friends.

Sports

At Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School, we offer a wide range of structured sports activities to ensure our students are both physically and mentally fit. Our sports programs help identify hidden talents while also educating students about the science behind biomechanics, movement sciences (kinesiology), and preventive and rehabilitative sciences.

Fine Arts

We encourage our students to excel not only in academics and sports but also in the performing arts. To support this, we have established a Music Club equipped with a variety of musical instruments. Training is provided in guitar, veena, violin, flute, keyboard, tabla, drums, and mridangam. Additionally, students receive training in Bharatanatyam, folk dance, and yoga.

Our English Language Lab is equipped with internationally certified language learning software and audiovisual equipment to enhance comprehensive language skills. The lab focuses on the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Skill Based Education

Education should be skill-based rather than knowledge-based, as it enables students to learn more efficiently and understand concepts more deeply. In today’s context, skill-based education is not merely an option but a necessity, given the high demand for skilled professionals and the comparatively low motivation to acquire these skills.

In line with current educational needs, our school offers foundational course and entrance coaching from middle classes.
